A museum is generally known as a structure, building or institution that exhibits objects of historical, scientific, cultural or artistic value. In this site-specific performance “Body as Object,” Indonesian choreographer, Eko Supriyanto employs the architectural backdrop of ArtScience Museum’s rain oculus to play and display the statue-like bodies of his three male dancers from Solo Dance Studio. Individually adorned with Bornean-inspired traditional tattoos, each dancer reveals a collection of narratives about crossing of traditional and contemporary cultures over this one-hour choreographic exhibition.
Renowned for their extensive vocabulary of contemporary dance techniques rooted in classical Javanese tradition, this transformative imagery of bodies as objects – the dancers – articulate an alternative exhibition format to the audiences of ArtScience Late as they move along the core of the museum’s structure where metal, water & air all meet.
Entry is complimentary and on a first come first served basis. ArtScience Museum will be opened until 10pm for every ArtScience Late event.
